The First Season of The Pitt

The First Season of The Pitt

The first fifteen episodes of the medical procedural The Pitt streaming on Max remind the viewing audience of some important things:  Doctors have to learn a lot of complicated stuff.  And Emergency Room doctors, in particular, have to diagnose and treat patients quickly.

The young interns here have been well-trained and seem well-suited for the pressures of the job.  The attending physician is a model leader, able to convey his medical expertise with compassion and decisiveness.

But for me the ultimate take-away is how massively ‘conflicted’ our emergency care delivery system is, since the people most in need, and the providers dedicating themselves to serving them, are catching the short end of the stick due to the vagaries of a for-profit operating model.

Don’t worry, I don’t have any grand designs for improvement to foist on you today.  Except to say the obvious:  there has got to be a better way.
